Different types of blood cell disorders
Disorder in a blood cell is basically a condition in which red cells, white cells or the smaller circulating cells in blood called platelets, which are in charge for clot formation in human body, face problems and form different types of blood diseases. All three types of cells mentioned above are formed in the bone marrow, which is the soft tissue inside the bones. Red cells of blood transport oxygen to different tissues and organs of the body.
White cells help your body in fighting against infections. Platelets help in blood clot formation. Blood cell disorders may cause impairment in the function and formation of one or more of these types of cells.
Diseases due to red blood cell disorders
Red cells are in charge of carrying oxygen from lungs to other organs of the body. Any type of disorders in these cells can result in diseases such as:
Anemia
Anemia is one type of red cell disorders which can be triggered due to lack of the mineral iron in blood.
Thalassemia
Thalassemia is one of the inherited blood disorders which can be caused due to genetic mutations that prevents the normal production of hemogolobin, so that oxygen can not be transported to all parts of the body, properly.
Polycythemia Vera
Blood cancer is due to gene mutation. In the body of those who suffer from polycythemia, bone marrow makes too many red blood cells. This can result in blood thickness so that the blood flow becomes slow and eventually puts individuals at risk of blood clots which can cause strokes and heart attacks.
Diseases due to white blood cell disorders
White blood cells help body to defend itself against foreign substances and infections. Any types of disorders in these cells can affect body’s immune response and its ability to fight against infection.
Lymphoma
Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer which occurs in body’s lymphatic system. Through this disorder, the white blood cells change and will be out of control. Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma are the two well-known types of lymphoma.
Leukemia
This disorder is one of the types of blood cancers through which white blood cells enlarge inside patient’s bone marrow.
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)
During this disorder, body produces immature cells, which are called as blasts. The blasts crowd out the healthy and mature cells.
Diseases due to platelet disorders
When body does not have enough Platelets, any minor injuries can lead to a severe bleeding and become dangerous. The platelet disorders are primarily genetic based, which means that they are inherited.
Von Willebrand disease
Von Willebrand disease is one of the most common inherited bleeding disorders and it can be due to lack of protein which is useful for blood clot and is called von Willebrand factor.
Hemophilia
This is one of the most well-known blood clotting disorders. The most serious complication of Hemophilia would be excessive bleeding. This type of bleeding can show up inside or outside of the body without any apparent reason.
Primary Thrombocythemia
This is a rare disorder which can lead to an increase in blood clotting (the increase of platelet production in bone marrow). This disorder can put individuals at higher risk of stroke or heart attack.
Acquired platelet function disorders
Some drugs can affect the platelet function. Use all your medications under supervision of your doctor as they may have effects on Platelets, especially those of which you will take for a long time.
Summary:
Blood is an alive tissue and it is consist of red blood cells, white blood cells and Platelets, all of which can be affected by disorders so that they result in blood diseases (Anemia, Thalassemia, Hemophilia and …). Many of these diseases are genetic based, while other types of them are triggered due to side effects of medications and lack of minerals in daily diet.
