An introduction to human’s eye diseases
In comparison to other common five senses, for most of the people, vision is of great importance. Vision allows us to understand the world around us better. To this end, careful protection of eyesight from common eye diseases is of great importance. Eye diseases are common and most of the people have faced some of them once during their lives. Eye disorders become more common as we age.
On one hand, some of these eye disorders, such as eye infection in infants and kids, are curable in a short time only if they get diagnosed early. On the other hand, there are types of eye diseases which are more severe and can cause serious damages such as loss of vision. Fortunately, most of the eye disorders, even those severe ones, can be prevented. In this article, we will introduce and discuss a couple of eye diseases which they can be prevented.
Glaucoma (OCULAR TENSION)
Glaucoma is one of the eye diseases that can be triggered due to the increasing inner eye tension. Later, this tension can cause the devastation of sight nerves and eventually loss of vision. Glaucoma can be divided into two groups: open angle Glaucoma (which is painless and involves most of the cases) and close angle Glaucoma (which is painful with redness and it usually happens fast).
In the very initial stages of this illness, there is no significant symptom. Over time, the eyesight would be affected and permanent damages would show up. This illness is curable and by proper treatment you can slow down its pace or even stop it forever. This treatments consist of medical therapy, operational therapy and laser therapy. One should keep in mind that early diagnosis of Glaucoma can be the golden key to cure this illness.
Cataracts
A cataract is a painless clouding of normally clear lens in your eye which can cause blurry vision. This illness gets worse as the patient ages. This illness can be due to several parameters: Diabetes, trauma, use of medications and…
Macular degeneration
Macular degeneration is an eye disease that typically occurs after the age of 60. By having this medical condition, over time, the Macular is destroyed and this affects the central vision. While this medical condition barely results in complete blindness, it may harm central vision.
There are two types of AMD: “dry” and “wet”. In wet AMD, abnormal blood vessels start to grow behind the retina. Afterwards, they start to leak fluid and blood, then eventually cause loss of the central vision. This may happen very fast. In dry AMD, over time, the light-sensitive cells in macula gradually deteriorate which can cause the loss of central vision.
Conjunctivitis (pinkeye)
Conjunctivitis, is an inflammation of conjunctive (which is a clear tissue lying between white parts of the eye and inside of the eyelid). This illness is very common and curable. Due to the inflammation of the blood vessels, they become more detectable so that the eye becomes pink or red. This inflammation can happen due to infection, allergies and other factors. Conjunctivitis that are caused by some viruses or bacteria can spread easily. Eye infection in kids and infants usually is with eye red out and inflammation of eyelids.
Uveitis
Uveitis is an inflammation of eye’s middle layer. Uvea is a layer of eye that contains vessels which nutrient the critical structures of vision. Symptoms of uveitis may include: eye injury, infection, Rheumatologic and inflammation disease that can also affect other parts of the body. The main symptom of Uveitis is painful eyes. You may notice redness (bleeding) in the eye’s structure and experience the blurring of vision, light sensitivity and eye floaters.
Summary:
Many people who have suffered from eye diseases, have not experienced the initial symptoms. These illnesses can be painless or do not cause any differences in your vision, unless they become complicated and serious. These eye diseases may happen at different stages of your life. As an example, the eye infection in infants and kids is among those disorders that can be diagnosed in younger ages. Therefore, getting your eyes checked regularly by optometrists, would be the best way to take care of your vision.
