What is a fatty liver and how it can be diagnosed?

Fatty liver is a notable name for a type of illness through which the fat level of liver is reported higher than normal. In fact, presence of a normal and expected level of fat in liver is natural but once too much fat can cause serious problems for body and general health of individuals. Liver is one of those big organs in body that is responsible for repairing and making new cells. All the food we consume every day or beverages that we drink pass through liver, which acts as a filter and then transform them into quadruple nutrition that body requires.

In this case, if your diet is too fat, it can affect natural performance of liver and change it dramatically. Therefore it is better to diagnose fatty liver and cure it as soon as possible.

Different types of fatty liver

Alcoholic fatty liver

In this type of disease, extra fat in body cannot be eliminated due to presence of alcohol in blood. If individual refuse to take alcohol, this disease will be cured in almost two months.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver

In general, most of those people who are suffering from this type of disease do not recognize this complication without especial tests. The latter is due to the fact that this disease do not show any particular symptom. The fat level in this case is more than 10 percent.

The fatty liver has different grades that we will discuss them in the following:

  • In fatty liver grade one, patient does not face any particular complication and extra fat would reside on the outer parts of liver, therefore this organ can function perfectly.
  • Unfortunately, in fatty liver grade two the liver tissue is damaged and it can be fully diagnosed using sonography or other types of visual tests.
  • In fatty liver grade three, liver will be in a dangerous condition and its functionality is disturbed completely. In this case, walls of liver are damaged seriously.

How is fatty liver diagnosed?

Physical examinations

An experienced doctor can easily diagnose inflammations in liver with physical diagnosis. Therefore, by a simple visit to doctor and going through physical examinations you can make sure on your liver’s health conditions.

Blood test

Blood test cannot be a solid stamp to confirm the disease of fatty liver as it slightly overestimates the level of liver enzymes.

Visual tests

Sonography can show the liver condition of individuals in a more clear and precise way. If needed and for more precise results, MRI can also be performed.

Liver biopsy

One of the other ways of diagnosing this disease is to sample the liver tissue. This method can ensure doctors in a more precise diagnosis.

Treatments of fatty liver

Treating this complication needs control and manage. Taking special medication or performing surgery are not absolute solutions and cannot treat this complication alone. Following doctor’s suggestions can be helpful in this regard.

Avoid taking alcoholic beverages

  • Having a healthy diet full of organic vegetables and low-fat meat
  • Controlling blood lipids
  • losing the extra weight
  • Blood glucose management

Treatments of fatty liver

Summary:

Fatty liver occurs due to presence of extra fat in liver. Most of the patients who have this disease do not recognize any specific symptom but in some cases patient’s conditions can become complicated and more severe. The exact reason behind this disease is unknown, but obesity can be one of the dangerous reasons behind this complication. Avoiding alcohol and having a healthy and balanced diet can be helpful in preventing or even treating this disease.
