How to treat low back pain?

Low back pain is one of the most common reasons for which people usually skip one or two working days to rest and try different treatments. Intense low back pain can be so debilitating that sometimes the patient loses his or her ability to move or follow daily routines. Naturally, most of the low back pains are due to injuries, heavy exercises, intense and long-term works or some types of diseases. This type of complication is not limited to a specific age but it is more common among adults and elderly people.

How to treat low back pain

What are the symptoms of low back pain?

Those who are suffering from low back pain can observe different symptoms in their body. Some of these symptoms include:

  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Swelling and inflammation in waist area
  • Pain in lower parts of feet, particularly under the knees
  • Disorders such as incontinence in urination
  • Numbness, stinging pain or feeling of weakness in waist, hips and genital area

Back pain treatment

With plenty of rest and some home remedies, low back pain can be treated easily. However, in some cases professional medical treatments are needed.

Home remedies

  • Pain killers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen can treat temporary low back pains.
  • Hot or cold compresses on the painful areas is mostly suggested for reducing the pain
  • Last but not least, resting and reducing the pressure on waist and painful parts of the back can play important role in treating this complication.

Medical treatments

  • Regarding the general condition of patient, different medicines can be prescribed. If pain killers do not work properly, some opiates, such as codeine, can be prescribed for patient in order to reduce the amount of pain.
  • Physiotherapy, stimulation and electrical shocks are also techniques that can easily affect muscles in the back and waist and also can reduce the pain. In this case, some helpful daily exercises are also suggested to the patient.
  • If pain does not respond to any of the aforementioned methods, then cortisone injection is one of the other available solutions that can be helpful in pain relief..

  • Acupuncture is one of the best available complementary methods in order to reduce low back pain. This method has significant effect on the procedure of treatment.   • Exercises and yoga can also be beneficial. That is mostly due to the fact that useful exercises can help increasing the strength of muscles. Regular exercises can treat back pain completely and successfully.
  • Using different massage techniques can also be beneficial in particular cases due to relaxing muscles in painful areas.

In case of intense injuries, usually doctors and surgeons recommend surgeries. Otherwise, irreparable damages to patient would be inevitable. These damages can sometimes cause patient to lose his or her moving ability. Fusion, artificial disks, and lumbar discectomy are a number of methods that can improve the performance of back and pain and prevent them from discoloration.

There are many different medical techniques and home remedies which can be helpful in treating this complication, such as: painkillers, hot or cold compresses, physiotherapy, injections and eventually surgeries. Due to the severity of the condition, patient may feel pain in feet and numbness or stinging pain in other organs as well.
