Multiple Sclerosis ( MS ) is a deadly and fatal disease that affects patient’s nervous system and damages spinal cord, optic nerves and brain in patient’s body. Treatment for MS attacks

  • Corticosteroids: Similar to Methylprednisolone and oral Prednisolone, this drug is useful to reduce inflammation of nerves and immune system.
  • Plasma exchange (Plasmapheresis): In this treatment, liquid part of the blood (Plasma) is removed and blood cells get separated. Afterwards, these cells get mixed with a liquid protein (albumin) and are transferred back to the body. In the case of severe and intense symptoms, Corticosteroids may not work. Therefore Plasma exchange would be a good choice.

Medical treatments to prevent Multiple Sclerosis attacks:

  • Interferon Beta: These are one of the most common medications for treating MS. Interferon Beta can be prescirbed as subcutaneous or Intramuscular injection and it can slow down the frequency and intensity of symptoms.
  • Ocrelizumab: Ocrelizumab is a humanized anti-body drug and it is the only medication which is approved by FDA. This drug can be used for preventing and as a treatment for Multiple Sclerosis primary progressive. Clinical trial has proved that this medication can reduce the symptoms in both types of the illness.
  • Glatiramer: This drug is useful to stop patient’s immune system from attacking the myelin. This drug is usually prescribed in the form of subcutaneous injection.

  • Physiotherapy sectionsA physiotherapist or therapist can help patient through teaching useful stretching and strengthening exercises or the usage of different devices to ease patient’s daily routines. The physiotherapist with the help of mobility assistant can help the patient to reduce the weakness of muscles and movement problems which are mostly due to Multiple Sclerosis.
  • Muscle relaxant: Patient may feel fatigue and pain in body or face intensive spasm in some parts of the feet. In this case, some drugs such as Baclofen (Lioresal) and   Tizandine (Zanaflex) can help you to relax your body.

Lifestyle and its role in Multiple Sclerosis treatment:

  • Enough rest and avoiding stress : Stress can cause severe symptoms and worsen patient’s condition. Yoga, massage, meditation and enough rest can be very beneficial. Many of those who are facing MS use replaced or complementary treatments to get help for healing symptoms such as fatigue and muscle pain.
  • Exercise : In the case of mild symptoms, regular exercises can help the patient in his body strength, increase his muscle ability and Make equivalent body movements. Usually mild and easy exercises are prescribed which mostly consist of: walking, stretching exercises and …
  • Healthy diet : Healthy diet without fat, that is mostly consist of organic and healthy food, and diets which consist of Omega 3 and vitamin D are useful to cure MS.
